Amy Donaghue, Nurse Practitioner
Amy was born and raised in Chicago. As a child, she was a gymnast, with a profound curiosity about how the human body works. This interest led her to become a registered nurse.
During her time caring for patients at the Rush University Medical Center, as well as Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Amy became keenly aware of how many patients were hospitalized as a result of complications from preventable diseases, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and Type 2 diabetes.
This experience, as well as having several close family members living with a preventable chronic illness, resulting in her deciding to focus her nursing career on preventative healthcare.
She began by examining her own lifestyle habits and learned how to prepare nutritious and tasty meals. Once she was on her own path to eating healthy, she experienced the positive effects that eating nourishing foods had on her body and overall well-being. This knowledge sparked a quest to help people realize what she had come to personally know: a healthy lifestyle helps make for a better life. Combining her education, along with her own refined lifestyle habits, she set out to teach people how to make healthy choices and avoid preventable diseases.
During her time as a registered nurse, Amy joined medical missions in other countries to apply her nursing skills to help those less fortunate.
In her desire to provide an even broader breadth of knowledge and care to her patients, Amy moved to Southern California to pursue her Master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner at USC.
Upon completing her Masters, she sought out a medical practice that placed a priority on preventing chronic disease. During her search, she found Regenera Medical – and was inspired by the pioneering work being done by founder, Elroy Vojdani MD, IFMCP.
Amy firmly believes that a functional medicine approach to healthcare is fundamental to not only getting to the root cause of illness – in order to create a treatment plan that actually heals the body instead of suppressing the symptoms – but also to preventing disease in the first place.
“I’m excited to be a part of Regenera Medical, because of the forward-thinking approach. I feel truly lucky to be a part of a like-minded team with a passion for health and wellness,” Amy expressed.
When she’s not caring for patients or cooking healthy meals for friends and family, Amy enjoys exercising and spending time at the beach.
